3 Years of Breast Cancer Prevention with Sutter Health

Staff and providers from Sutter Health and the Order of Malta Clinic join forces to beat breast cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Order of Malta Clinic, thanks to our partnership with Sutter Health, is making sure underserved women in our community have access to state-of-the-art breast cancer screenings.

The Order of Malta Clinic was the site of Sutter Health's very first mobile mammography screening event in October 2020. Three years later, we gathered to celebrate our ongoing partnership and critical service to women who might not otherwise have access to screening mammography.

Our mobile mammography vehicle helps us reach women in our community who might not otherwise have access to screening mammography. Connecting with these women is critical because early detection is the best defense against the disease. It’s when we have the most treatment options –and early treatment leads to better long-term survival rates.
— Dr. Rita Kwan-Feinberg, Sutter Health

Without the free services offered by our clinic, patients like Ester might otherwise go without critical services like breast cancer screenings.

Esther said she loves coming to Sutter’s Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center mobile mammography clinic at the Order of Malta Clinic because “the staff is amazing and there’s no waiting!”

Esther’s message for women in her community: “I encourage women to get their mammogram! Get checked. Catch breast cancer early. And if there is cancer, they will help you! . . . It’s very important that women get their breast exam.”

Esther’s message to women who are reluctant to get mammograms: “I know some women who are scared that something is there, but they say they don’t want to know. I tell them, ‘Go get checked and if it’s there, they will get you treatment and help you!’”
